Costa Rica!!
As a lot of you already know, we were given the opertunity to travel to Costa Rica in April, 07. We were contacted by a retired couple that spend nearly half of their year in the beautiful country. They live the other part of their year in Ohio, US.
At first, I was very skeptical of the offer to travel there, especially having Never traveled before. But after Many months of countless phone calls and e-mails, their puppy was born on Christmas Eve. He was picked out for them to complete their family and to be a companion for their female chi "Carrie". He was lovingly named "Duke" and was soon addressed as "Sir Duke".
We decided to make this a chance to explore Costa Rica, so planned to stay for 8 days. (I wish we could have stayed longer)
Well, the plans were now on, and the vet paperwork had to be completed. Duke was neutered and the flights were booked. I was a nervous wreck as the thought of flying got closer and closer, but very excited to finally meet our new friends Bruno and Joan!!
They gave us the contact info for a wonderful driver named Bernarda. She prooved to be wonderful and invaluable durring our trip. Her young daughter joined us on some of our drives and we had a great time.
We traveled with Duke to Calgary airport late on the 10th of April, and boarded the plane very early on the 11th. Duke traveled in a carry-on pet bag, and was so good. He was so quiet that NO ONE knew he was even there. We arrived in Houston, TX around lunch, and had a lay over until supper time. We then boarded another plane and flew over the ocean and arrived in Costa Rica around 9pm.
It was sooo hot there and our new friends, Bernarda & Joan greeted us at the airport. We were so happy to meet everyone and for them to see their new puppy. Duke was a bit jet lagged, but soon settled in. After a visit, a drink and lots of hugs, we went to the hotel for some sleep.
The rest of the trip was Great!! We traveled all over Costa Rica, and saw so many beautiful things. Bernarda was wonderful and made our trip safe and fun. Thanks Bernarda!!
On our last night, we were reunited with Bruno & Joan, and the furry little friends. They prepared a wonderful supper, and we visited for the evening over drinks. We were awakened at 3am to coffee, tea and a beautiful breakfast. We couldn't have asked for a nicer experience.
We continue to be in contact with Bruno, Joan & Bernarda, and are very happy to have made new friends in them. I never imagined that raising these wonderful little dogs would take us so far away, but wouldn't have missed the chance for the world.
Thank You Bruno & Joan, for adopting Duke and giving him a perfect home. You have been very encouraging to us in all of our conversations, and I am happy to call you friends. We wish you many happy years with your new puppy! Enjoy him and Carrie, and don't forget to send lots of pictures!
Here is the most recent picture of Duke!! Thank you Joan & Bruno!
